Screen Printer Visit.
Just got back from picking up the Glyph Cue S/S 2011 Collection at our screen printer's warehouse. Tanner does great work. The best screen printer I've ever worked with (and I've known lots). Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the unveiling of our new Graphics, printed with Eco-Inks on premium Hemp Tees. Good stuff!
Interviewed : Graffuturism.
GRAFFUTURISM is an amazing website that showcases the intersection of Graffiti & Futurism. I recently caught up with the site's curator and we chatted about my history in graffiti, evolution to non-letterform murals, and more. Read Interview.

Studio Magic Tricks.
I've had a great response to the posts I've been doing that showcase the Materials, Tools, and Supplies (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5) that I frequently use in my Painting Studio. Here are a couple more things I've been enjoying lately. Pictured above is an XL Compass for making huge circles. After years of tracing bowls and plates for perfect circles this was a great addition to my tool collection. You can even put a blade in for cutting exact circle stencils. Rad!
This "Classic Loop" works great for many things, especially cutting organic shape stencils. It's like having a pizza cutter in the box cutter drawer. Very useful for certain projects.
And finally, the secret stash of many fine artists, an Art-O-Graph Projector. Sure I went to Art School and learned how to sketch stuff super realistic with dozens of layers of ghost pencil lines and eraser marks. But when it comes to painting true portraits this thing saves a lot of time and headaches. Great way to translate an intricate napkin doodle to a huge canvas without losing exact proportions.

Walls That Teach.
I've had fun working with my friends Gaelen & Magda on their organization's new website : Walls That Teach. Surf through to learn all about their Methods, Mission, and Murals. "Walls That Teach is an educational organization that provides art and history workshops for youth. Together we plan, design, and execute full-scale public Murals. We use Graffiti Art to achieve these goals."

Wired 19.03 : Made In America Quilt.
This was a really fun one! I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Wired Magazine a bunch of times over the years (1 + 2 + 3 + 4) and this project is my favorite yet. The new issue #19.03 focuses on factory production overseas and stateside. I was commissioned to create this 2-page geo-illustration of an American Factory for an article about the benefits of domestic production.
The illustration was actualized as a Real Quilt (View top image to learn about the process). Lots of fun. Thanks Margaret and The Wired Crew. Always a pleasure! Click-Zoom.
It's a magical experience for me to see my work actualized as functional design. I've wanted to make a quilt for ages and this project has inspired a slew of new ideas for future projects.
Here's a glimpse into the design process. 2000+ tiny triangles!

Upcycled Packaging Design.
This was a fun one! Last Summer I worked with my friends over at CaseMate (the folks I did the iPhone Cases with and a Mega Wall in their Atlanta HQ) on this forward-thinking Upcycling concept for their new offerings. Each product comes in a break apart package that becomes a windowsill plant box. Included inside are various seed packs and a soil disk. Just add water! The kits each have their own theme and Typographic Artwork : Thrive, Nurture, Invent, Create, and Pollinate. Pretty nifty! Click-Zoom.

Old-Fashioned Graphic Design.
It's crazy to think that up until about 30 years ago a Pencil, Ruler, Compass, and X-Acto Kit were the primary tools for Graphic Artists. No mouse clicking in Adobe, just long hours with half-cooked work spread across big tables. For me it's crucial to stay fluent with the crafts of the past. I've learned a lot about patience and committing to decisions with my work when the computer is off. I hope they will always teach this stuff in Art Schools. It is the foundation.
