Q3 Reminder.

Just a quick heads up to everyone who purchased one of the über limited MWM 2009 Calendars. Tomorrow is July 1st, and that means out with the Green and in with the Red. May the sun shine down on us. Please. It seems more like Portland, Oregon around here lately than Portland, Maine. Bring it on. I am already scheming on how to kick it up a notch for the MWM 2010 Calendars. Stay tuned.

Spotted In The Boonies.

This is pretty hilarious. An MWM Graphics Field Agent in Eastern Washington came across these aluminum Mountain Dew "Americana" Bottles that I designed last Summer. Yup, in an antique store. And selling for 8 bucks a pop. Not bad, especially considering they made 9 million of them. I'm also told they have been spotted at Carnivals being used in the Ring Toss Game. Too funny!

Asylum Jam.

The annual Asylum "Wall Of Fame" Graffiti Jam began this weekend with a beautiful blue-sky Saturday that defied the weather forecast. But today was a wash, so the production is still coming together. I'll prolly catch a few noogies for posting photos of the unfinished jam, but whatevs. It's looking fresh already. View 2008, 2007, and More.
I banged out this fluffy piece pretty quick. Not extra pleased with it, but I like the idea I was going for. This Summer I am focusing my letter-based pieces on a new deconstructed process that re-thinks the standard "Sketch. Fill. 3D. Outline. Inline. Force Field." I'm trying to figure out a new way to build up the letterforms without doing the cookie-cutter technique that we all love so much. So far, I haven't nailed one yet, but I am trying. Hopefully by August I will be slaying my five letters in a new way. Click-Zoom.

Pantone & ColorMunki.

I was psyched to get home from my travels to a pile of mail so big that I had to move some of it downstairs to get in the door. Lots of awesome stuff including Phase 1 of prizes from winning Cut & Paste Boston 2D Design Competition a few months ago. Got a grip of Pantone books, swatch fans, and such. And also got this futuristic new thingamajig from ColorMunki that I am not educated enough yet to explain. But their site can fill you in. Pretty awesome, if you are a design nerd like me. Can't wait to receive the rest of the prizes, especially the new Wacom Cintiq that allows you to draw right on the screen. Fresh!

Recent Interviews: Total Sao Paulo - MWM Interview. Good times! Crispin brought me for lessons to learn the Forró with beautiful Brazilian Girls, and then we drank nuff Cachaça. Then we bar hopped and spoke on my "Parallel Universe" Show here in Sao Paulo, my Portland-Maine Studio, and some opinions I have on some stuff.

Brazil Blueprints.

I've fallen into a nice morning routine of multiple espressos, doodling, and hauling cigs at a local cafe before hitting the lab. Psyched to actualize a couple of these soon! Click-Zoom.

MWM "Parallel Universe" Brazil Solo-Show.

MWM "Parallel Universe". 23.06 - 25.07. POP Gallery - Sao Paulo.
An ambitious creative spirit, MWM (Matt W. Moore) has traveled to Sao Paulo for one month to prepare, from scratch, for his first South American Solo-Exhibition. He arrived with no art, no supplies, and no firm plan for this new series of canvas paintings. The ideas for the artworks have actualized while processing time spent absorbing Brazilian Culture, exploring this Mega-City, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated geometry, and the diverse architecture of Sao Paulo.
MWM's "Parallel Universe" Series explores and celebrates the convergence of his dedication to various disciplines of design and art. The paintings were created entirely with spray paint, one of Matt's favorite mediums. But, the designs are very clean, and appear almost digital in their precise details and craft. An honest, analog attempt to achieve the same depth and abstract geometry of his digital "Vectorfunk" style. The goal with each work is to have the viewers eye fall into the piece and get lost in the optical illusions, trying to figure out what is up, down, left, and right. Welcome to the Jungle!

TV Cultura Brazil. Studio Visit.

TV Cultura came through last week to see what's been going down in my Brazil Lab. We spoke about my history, this series of canvases, and my plans for the future. Hopefully not to much got lost in translation :) Thanks Guys! TV Cultura - Matt W. Moore.

Mais E Mais.

Everything is coming along great on my "Parallel Universe" Series. I have 9 days left until the Exhibition. Double-Shiftin' 8 Days a week!

Stack Dem Chips.

It's always fun for me to watch friends curiously perusing my Painting Studio. First they see the Art (and it is usually not done, so I must explain what I plan to do next with each painting). Then they notice how messy it is and ask "How can you possibly make such clean work in such a cluttered space?". Then they start to notice my little tricks of the trade, my MacGyver Art Supplies. The fun stuff! Like these pennies that I use for weights when doing paper-stencil spraying. I've been using pennies for years. It all started because it was the most convenient thing I had around to use. But then when I went to the Hardware Store to buy stuff that would work the same, I realized there was nothing less expensive. Oh, the irony of it all! Just wait until I put these guys back into circulation. Haha.

YO! New Colorway.

Another Studio casualty. Toothbrush+Windex can't revive these guys.
